In 1985, Bryan founded and directed an urban center in Fort Worth, Texas, called "Liberation Community." For the next seven years, he served as pastor of the ethnically diverse church and executive director of Liberation Community, Inc., a non-profit corporation. During this time Liberation Community provided direct aid, adult education, employment assistance, legal aid, youth programs, and a nationally recognized low-income housing program. Prior to Bryan's appointment to Boston University School of Theology in 1998, he taught theology and ministry at Azusa Pacific University and served as the director of Bresee Institute for Urban Training in Los Angeles. His publications include a number of articles and teaching resources, as well as three books: Faith and Film: Theological Themes at the Cinema (St. Louis: Chalice Press, 2000), Compassionate Ministry: Theological Foundations (Maryknoll: Orbis Books, 1996), and Effective Faith: A Critical Study of the Christology of Juan Luis Segundo (Lanham, MD: University Press of America, 1994). Bryan has taught a wide range of courses including Faith and Film, Urban Ministry, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Liberation Theology, Church History, Christian Ethics, Evangelism, Ministry in Multicultural Contexts, Church Renewal, and New Church Development. He is married to Cheryl and lives in Quincy, Massachusetts. |
