Richard Ascough is Associate Professor of New Testament at Queen’s Theological
College and Queen’s University Department of Religious Studies, Kingston,
Canada. He received his Ph.D. from the University of St. Michael’s College,
Toronto (1997) and is the author of Passionate Visionary: Leadership
Lessons from the Apostle Paul (with Sandy Cotton, 2005), Paul’s Macedonian
Associations (2003), Miracles of Jesus (2003), and What Are They Saying
About the Formation of Pauline Churches? (1998). He has also published
a number of essays and articles in the area of Christian origins.
Dr. Ascough is currently researching the dynamics of religious interaction
and community development in small religious associations in the Greco-Roman
world. He is particularly interested in issues of religious conversion
and the stages of group growth. In a separate line of research, Prof.
Ascough has an ongoing interest in how religion intersects with film,
particularly in terms of mythmaking, worldview, and the creation of self
or group identity through an artistic medium.
