In the spring of 2000 I returned to Pakistan and Afghanistan for the first time since 1978. During the summer I traveled extensively in Chitral, Gilgit, Hunza, and Gojal, and through the late summer and fall I traveled in and out of Afghanistan working with teams of Afghan deminers supervised by a small staff of Western military advisors. For several weeks at the start of this season I was in Peshawar, and several times I managed to make photographic excursions about the town and nearby areas. At the end of the chapter are four images taken in Rawlpindi.
