For the month of May 2003 I was under contract with the United Nations World Food Program. This UN agency brought food into Afghanistan in large quantities, primarily on convoys of trucks from Pakistan. This chapter deals with a journey that I took with the WFP into the Adrascan Valley, an area never before entered by motor vehicles. Though I was not altogether comfortable with this mission in some ways, it was a wonderful opportunity to visit a new and seldom-visited area.
