ax01    ATC Headquarters

This is the story of two days of field work with deminers clearing the road to the Bagram Airport just after the fall of the Taliban. The United Nations Mine Action Program for Afghanistan (MAPA) supervises the activities of a series of the Afghan demining NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations); these companies, made up almost entirely of Afghans, do most of the actual demining. Two days after the swearing in of the Interim Administration in Kabul and four days after the first United Nations personnel returned after the fall of the Taliban government, this ordinance disposal team from ATC (Afghan Technical Consultants) went from the outskirts of Kabul to the Bagram Airport, along the new road, clearing UXOs (Unexploded Ordinance).
